I'm new to the vette seen, purchased a black 1998 convertible about 8 months ago. My problem is starting the car when the engine gets hot. It will start, but it will crank more than when the engine is cooled. Sometimes I need to crank it two times before it starts. I've checked fuel pressure and it seems fine, changed plugs, wires and fuel filter and I'm still having the same issue. Although my buddy noticed that one of the plugs was wet with some fuel?? We checked for codes and nothing was read at the time. Once and awhile I'll get the message service soon. She has about 112,000 kms on it now. I've also notice that the gas gauge hasn't been reading the fuel level that accurately either, lately, it reads more than what's really in the tank. Are these common problems and how would I solve this? It runs like a dream...the motor is clean and the car runs really smooth. Who would think a 1998 would run like a brand new car. Except for the obvious.

Just a shot in the dark, but perhaps your injectors (or at least a couple) are leaking by. See if your fuel pressure holds after shut down. I had a similar problem and this was the solution. They would leak by and flood the engine, causing the hot start prob. Obviously after a long period of off-time, the condition would clear and the car would start right up. Hopefully i'm pointing you in the right direction.

I have the same issue with extended cranking when hot with my '01. I found that when it happens, if I turn the key off and on to start again, it fires right up. Otherwise it starts and runs fine. Weird  Makes me wonder if it's a programming bug or something.
