Default Switching from LS1 Intake to LS6 Question.

Putting an LS6 intake on a 2000 C5...just a straight bolt on swap?

Do you need a new gasket or anything else?

Thanks guys!!

There is a casting boss that has to be ground off of the block. Just takes a few minutes with a cutting wheel. Also, if you're going to switch intakes, you should also use the LS6-style valley cover. It allows the PCV line to be plumbed from the valley cover instead of from the valve cover --- much better setup, & less oil contamination through the PCV.

On LS1howto.com it has the step by step instructions, it says nothing about switching valley cover or grinding anything. :seeya

I put one on my 99 and it was a bolt on but not a simple one. If you buy the complete kit new, it will have the gaskets already installed. You will also get some plugs and bypass tubes because of the clearance issue. Torquing the rear bolts is a pain. You’ll need a ¼ “ drive torque wrench and flex socket. Oh, getting the small vacuum tube in the back on is a pain. I didn’t have to grind anything though. Good luck. – C.

To utilize an LS6 intake you will have to remove the older style head coolant vent circuit... the coolant pipe below the intake manifold. You will need to obtain 2 coolant vent plugs for the rear of the heads and also will need the newer style coolant pipe for the front of the heads. Once those are in place the newer LS1/LS6 intake will bolt right up. BTW, we sell al necessary parts for the conversion and it can be ordered on line at http://www.xmsengineering.com/intake

In retrospect, I think the grinding only has to be done if you are swapping the valley cover. It's been a few years since I did my swap.

Bill,
After looking at the page for the 4th time I must be missing the kit. Is it by the FAST intake and Z06 intake? I must be missing it. Right after these 2 items is a MAF item. My mechanic will be doing the LT1 to LS6 change in the next 2 days on my car.

I think he means that with a purchase of his manifold you get every thing.

My questions is what size are the plugs? I can get the new coolant pipe from the dealership. Anyone have the GM part number for the front pipe?

That is a really good article on LS! how to . com
