check engine light
The check engine light just came on in my '98 with an odometer reading of 49,750 miles. Is this an indication of something wrong or a way to get the car into the dealership for a checkup?

Unless you are throwing some serious codes or observing some adverse change in performance, I'd wait a couple or three ignition cycles before giving the CE light any heed.

Follow these instructions to view your codes and post them all here. Be sure to get the module that the code is in and if it has an H or C or both after the number. Once you post the codes someone will be probably be able to tell you what the problem is.

Make sure your gas cap is on tight. You probably just ran it a little hard before it warmed up sufficiently. Does the light keep coming on on subsequent starts or just the one time?
