Has ANYONE ever had this problem? Ive got a 2000 Vette that I picked up from a board member, and since then it seems like all Ive had are little problems. The latest problem would be SERVICE COLUMN LOCK. My steering wheel is locked and WILL NOT unlock!! That message and also PULL KEY, WAIT 10 SEC, have been reading across the DIC. Anyone ever had this problem and if so what was the problem or what did you do? More than likely Im going to have to have the car towed to a dealership to have it fixed! :mad
Before you go to the dealer try removing the BCM/IPC fuse located in the passenger footwell for about 20sec. this will reset the system and may unlock the colum (if your lucky). If your vette is out of warranty mention the old colum lock recall and the upcoming colomn lock recall, there are bullittens and PI's relating to this problem, you should be able to get GM to cover the repairs since they know it's a common problem.
The problem with the NEW recall is that it doesn't actually fix the problem if you have a 6-speed. They're only going to reprogram the PCM to make sure the car won't start if it detects a column that failed to unlock. The physical problem will still be there. On automatics they will disable the lock all together.
I would suggest buying a CLB by jmX ASAP. Just remember that the lock needs to be unlocked to install the simulator or it won't work.
I tried what the first guy said, and it still didnt work. The car was towed to a local dealership, and their going to fix it tomorrow. Should I mention the steering wheel column lock recall?

Yes I would. GM is suppose to send out recall notices around May to fix the problem free. Just tell them you're saving them one less mailing. :)
UPDATE: As of now the car is at a local dealership. Thank you for letting me know about the recall. I was wondering if there is a website where I can get information on the recall, maybe like an offical GM webite or somthing kind of offical to take to the dealership or will they know? I did a search for "GM recalls for corvette" and I found news articles about it, is that good enough? Please let me know. Thanks everyone.
ANOTHER UPDATE: The guy at the dealership said that my car had previously already had that recall work done to it, and that the problem with my car isnt the steering column its the sensor.

Re: ANYONE ever... (Nates99ss)
Ok, this topic has been discussed ad nauseum for about the last 5 years.
1) The new steering column recall is NOT a fix. The column can still lock.
2) The first recall (that's right- there have been TWO) did not fix the problem- as you've just experienced.
3) BUY A COLUMN LOCK BYPASS!
I think they should make membership on this forum contingent on checking "yes" to the following statement:
"I have read the rules and regulation regarding posting on Corvetteforum and agree that my car REQUIRES a CLB to prevent the dreaded column lock unless my car is: and A4 equipped car built after 2002." :jester :jester :jester
