CA resident here. I'm thinking midpipes pass smog easier than LT headers. I'm also thinking they're more bang for the buck.
But has anyone compared the $/hp gain of a midpipe vs. LT headers? From what I've read, on a stock motor there's a 20hp gain from removing cats. I've also read there's up to a 30hp gain on LTs + midpipe.
Random midsections are about $700. LT headers are $900-1,500.
Does that mean $700 for 20+rwhp or about $1,200 for another 10+hp?

I've never heard of those kind of gains from a mid-pipe or by removing the cats on a stock car. You can easily get 20 rwhp from just a set of long tubes and a cat back. Mid-pipe's really don't do much except smooth out the tone of the exhaust. Go with a set of LT's (Kook's seem to be a popular brand right now) and an x-pipe and you'll get around 20-25 rwhp with about the same tq. and a beautiful sound.

Wait a Minute Blu00....
You got a blower, TR 224/227 cam, everything else..... but no headers because of smog?
/me gets in the car headed to Tracy.... Be there in 15 minutes at the Home Depot... I gotta smack some sense into ya! ;)
Nick said your car was _FAST_ and you don't have exhaust?
:) Stock manifolds and cats, but Z06 mufflers. It passed smog on a referee station dyno, it may have helped to have the C.A.R.B. printout with the car.
Nick was quite impressed, but it always feels different from the passenger seat, especially when I didn't have traction. :reddevil I put the 75# injectors in after the smog test, and Nick 'rough tuned' it. Waiting for him to dynotune it late next week, it's still running pig rich.
