Is there an over flow vent on the rear end? I was up under my 2004 with 2600 on it today whiping down the mufflers :D When I noticed some oil on my arm just a little and none on the floor. Found a little on a strut. I looked at the differential and all is dry but as best as I can see (without a lift) there is some form of line or maybe it's awire coming down the right side in front of the diff. (side closest to the engine) and I can see it has oil on it? Any Ideas Ive read plenty about the leaking rear end syndrome but this seems to be coming from some place higher and forward. :seeya
Yes, there is a vent and it has been the cause of many "leaks" reported on the C5 diff. Clean the area and watch for additional fluid. I cleaned mine at 6K, changed the diff fluid to Amsoil (at the right level), and have not had a problem since. The car now has 58K and going strong. The venting of fluid may be caused by "spirited driving"..... :D Have you been exceeding the posted limits lately? :bb :)

The vent your seeing on the right side is actually the vent from the transmission, the rear diff vent is just a small (1/2" tall) opening on the upper left side of the diff and it does not have a line coming down off of it.
Seeing that you have a 2004 with very few miles, more than likely your trans and rear diff may have been slightly overserviced at the plant and it will drain out the vent if it's overserviced, but nothing to worry about.
