I am getting ready to swap out the filter and fluid in my A4. I have been told by a few tranny builders that our cars (4l60E's) need some friction to shift properly and that I should stay away from synthetic fluids.I am looking for advice from some fellow A4 ownwer who have gone either route ?

I agree.. don't waste time using synthetic.. unless you had a fresh build done and decided to used syn. from the get go.. thats my opinion.. I'm sure someone will disagree and that is fine..
-Rick, bye bye :auto:

Thanks for the advice my F-body went 80,000 miles with lots of NOS on regular tranny fluid.
I have been working on auto trannies for years and learned a long time ago to use the factory recommended fluid. In your case DEX III. Pep Boys and WalMart sell it for a good price.
You need an additive for the Amsoil...the GM stuff is pre mixed
   Any Dex III would be fine. Many are using Amsoil and are happy with it. I have used both Mobil 1 synthetic and Amsoil and have had good service, with no problems. :smash: :yesnod: :)
I switched to the Amsiol and have had no problems infact before I switched to a 160 thermostat the Amsoil ran cooler than the GM stock tranny fluid WITH THE STOCK THERMOSTAT THE TRANNY FLUID SOMETIMES HIT 230 IN TRAFFIC. After swithcing to amsoil the temp dropped 10 degrees to 220 in traffic
Amsoil ATF is a Dexron III fluid & will be fine in your A4 & MN6.
