Can anyone that has this engine upgrade give some feed back as to reliability, performance? MTI's support history. Am seriously considering this engine as opposed to linkenfelter due to distance.
I've dealt with MTI only for an exhaust and intake upgrade and they were excellent. Answered all of my questions and never once looked down on me (I'm only 18 and most places won't even talk to me). They even let me back in the shop to look at the work. As far as their z07 packages go, from what I've read, and heard, they are top notch. I've never heard of one failing (unless it was absolute neglect and abuse). I don't think you could go wrong with either Lingenfelter or MTI. I know MTI's been around for a while, not to sure on lingenfelter.
Picked mine up about 4 weeks ago. In a word SICK! It made 507/507 RWHP/TQ and that's using my old TPIS headers and stock intake/throttle body. I have the Z1 Cam (236/236 .581/.581) It would be around 550 with the 90 mm Tb and Kooks headers I suspect. The only problem is thet bfg G-force KD's are now useless below 60 Mph. Can't get wide open in 1st or 2nd gear.
Raced my frined's 99 Viper R/T with a Roe Supercharger (10 psi) ported heads, 1.7 rockers, headers etc... We ran from 45-160 and he got me by about 1 car length. However, I had to to start in 3rd due to wheelspin and he strarted in secoind!!!! Want to hear the best part? Two days earlier he had his car tuned on the dyno and it made 678/720 AT THE WHEELS!!!! Any more questions?
One of my friends has one the only problem we have had is breaking the rear diff output shaft on slicks!! I installed the hardend output shaft but he has not made it to the track again.

I've been knowing Jason since the early 90's when he use to work on mustangs. He's a real nice guy and runs a top notch operation. the z07 is a beast. go for it. i'm in katy also we need to hook up.
BUT....I've heard it's not uncommon to experience a dropped sleeve on a 427. Has MTI done anything to improve the sleeving process vs. say one year ago, when I knew of a few people having this very issue?
Some people have good luck with them, some have bad luck. When it came time for warranty work, my luck was horrible.
I had MTI build a 449 cid motor for my '98. Used 1 quart of oil every 200 miles. Had them warranty it, & the warranty motor didn't last 1000 miles.
At the same time, I had a valve spring break on my heads & cam 2000 vette & had to get it waeeantied as well. When I got it, I was told they were unable to do a pull on it. Before the warranty motor, it made 417 RWHP & 392 RWTQ. Have dyno'ed since then, how depressing does 385 RWHP & 358 RWTQ sound. :mad
I guess I should thank Jayson, without getting royally screwed over by MTI, I'd have never stepped up & bought the LPE 427TT. :steering:
With that said, I'd highly recommend 21st Century Musclecars in Dallas. They are an LPE dealer, & provide real, genuine, customer service.
For those who don't know, we are celebrating our 25th year in business in 04.
We do offer the sleeved block NA 427, and 21st Century Musclecars offers the identical package, and they are much closer to you. I would at least afford them the opportunity to get a feel of what you are considering. They will offer you a package second to none. We have done extensive research and testing of the sleeved engines for over 2 years before offering them in service. Due to this extensive research and testing we are able to offer the Darton sleeved package with no leaking issues which the LS1 Darton sleeved blocks have be known for. John and Kerri Page are great people that you would enjoy working with. There phone number is 1.972.417.7177 and the web address is http://www.21stcenturymusclecars.com/  :steering:
Relative to the one negative post in this thread, all I can and will say is that there are two sides to every story. MTI has no desire to rehash an issue from over 3 years ago, however anyone who would like a slightly different version of events can contact Jayson Cohen at jaysonmti@aol.com.
Now back onto the topic at hand!
MTI's Z07 package is composed of only the finest in materials and workmanship and that is why a 2 year/24,000 mile warranty is offered. The heart and soul of this package is a Darton Resleeved Modular Integrated Deck (MID) LS1/LS6 block with a Lunati Crank, Billet Steel Rods, and Custom Forged Aluminum Forged Pistons. Couple this with a set of our hand ported Stage III LS1/LS6 cylinder heads and you have an unbeatable combination of power and driveability!
We have produced several Z07 packages in the last few months that have exceeded 550 rwhp NA with relatively mild camshafts and would invite anyone who who's interested in a Z07 package to contact MTI @ 281-870-8787 or visit our 12,000 square foot facility for in-depth shop tour and discussion of your individual goals and desires for your C5.
And remember that a MTI Z07 ran the 2003 One Lap of America... We drove ~5500 miles in 9 days (7 days for One Lap, a day there, and a day back). We did not have any issues with the package.
First of all, definitely choose a tuner who is close to you, whether it is MTI or 21st MC. I have MTI 427 motor for about 1.5 years now & have put 5000+ HARD miles on it. I've made 50+ passes & lots of WOT on the street.
MTI customer service is awesome. I did have some problems when I got my motor, but MTI took care of it without question even though I live overseas. I even had some problems with regard to shipping the motor, and Jayson has offered great help to resolve shipping issues although it wasn't even his responsibility.
Who ever you choose, make sure they are close to you & they offer a written warranty. Good Luck

And by the way... We won!
