I'm getting mixed opinions on getting a performance chip put in my 2001 A4. One guy says to do it while the other says it'll possibly do more harm than good. Any ideas?
The general opinion around here is that there is no "performace chip" worth the $$$. If you want to get the most performance out of your car you will need a custom tune on a dyno but without other modifications it isn't really worth the $$$ either.
Chevy did a pretty good job with the stock components. If you have upgraded then no off the shelf chip will help much anyway and you are much better off getting a custom tune.

ps. OH and nice color choice.... and I need help with my lawn!
You should be able to find a local shop that is willing to do a 'mini' LS1-Edit for around a hundred bucks. A mini edit would include changing shift points, fan settings, removing CAGS, etc.. For a mostly stock car I think this is the way to go.
there are no replaceable "chips" in the C5 engine computer management system. Your only option is edit the software in your existing PCM. LS1Edit and the Predator are two devices that allow you to do that.
i used predator on my 02 a4 and did .16 better on my 1/4 mile times which is about equivalent to gaining 15 hp. i don't really know if it's from quicker auto shifting or horsepower , but the fact is that the car is faster with it. i use 94 octane and my timing is advanced in their program up to 36 deg. max. i was able to change shift times and rpm limits, fan settings and monitor the engine at wot.
