my 01 is about a week old (to me at least) she only has 9000 miles on her. i love the car more than anything, but the clutch is KILLING ME!!!! i dont know how to explain it, but it def. seems like something is wrong. ive been driving 6spds forever, but i can not seem to start off from a dead stop with this car! :mad while in nuetral, if i let the clutch out, it has a HORRIBLE chatter! is this normal? when i push the clutch in, it goes away  when i try and take off, the whole car just chatters, then once i finally start rolling... i hear this HORRIBLE grinding noise :(
the whole situation kinda bums me out, its my first C5 and im already having problems :cry anybody have any ideas as to what it might be?? the clutch is not slipping though.

Re: Need help with clutch problem!!! (pewter6spdC5)
I hope someone comes to your rescue soon. There is definitely a problem. Mine use to "chatter" slightly when starting off from a dead stop. Putting a 4:10 rear in it solved that problem. I get the "box of marbles" that everyone else gets when shutting the engine off with the clutch out. I've learned to step on the clutch when I turn the key off.
There has to be a good Shop in Orlando, ask around, if it's as bad as you say it is......don't wait too long
Re: Need help with clutch problem!!! (pewter6spdC5)
yea,it sounds like you have issues.it shouldn't chatter or grind.first, where do you hear the grinding sound from?is it from the bellhousing or back near the rear?with the car off,can you put the car into first gear easy?with the engine running and the clutch disengaged[pedal pused down],will it go into first gear easy?do you have a rear main oil leak{oil leaking between the back of the block and the bellhouing}?how is the car once you are out of first gear?how does the car react on downshifts?
hey thanks for responding! its kinda hard to explain. i have no trouble getting into any gear. the "grinding" sound is only right when i take off in first gear, but goes away withing a few feet. no oil leak. but when im sitting in neutral with the clutch pedal out, you can really hear it chatter. if i rev it up in neutral with the clutch pedal out it sounds HORRIBLE! but if i rev it with the clutch pedal all the way down... its fine!! im also getting a loud WHINE sound coming from the tranny on acceleration. almost sounds like a supercharger! im just kinda upset, because the car is so new, and i was hoping i wouldnt have any problems.... least not this early!!!
is a clutch problem something that would be covered under warranty?? its not like its a worn clutch or anything. anyone ever had clutch work done under warranty?? i have a feeling im out of luck with this one! :(
Re: Need help with clutch problem!!! (pewter6spdC5)
Dang, sounds like something is definately broken in there. I hate that for ya. I had a chattering sound with the clutch out in neutral, and it turned out to be my throwout bearing. Also had a whine in first only, but didn't ever figure out what it was. Hope you get it resolved soon. Good luck.
im gonna have to guess that its the stock clutch! i couldnt imagine why someone would replace the clutch on a stock vette with only 8000 miles! i just stopped by my local garage. im good friends with the owners, and its a transmission shop. i told them the details, they said it sounds like the pressure plate and/or throwout bearing!
Re: Need help with clutch problem!!! (pewter6spdC5)
Find someone local who has 6 speed and can try out your clutch to see if there is something strange about it. Do it before you start messing about with the dealer.
Re: Need help with clutch problem!!! (pewter6spdC5)
I would say the same as the transmission shop. From the minute I read your first post!
The "throwout bearing" in our cars, is actually a "Slave Cylinder" since we are hydraulic.
It would be covered under warranty (assuming it was not aftermarket).
Does the sound happen in neutral, and then go way when the clutch pedal is depressed? If so....I would have to say slave cylinder!!!!! Also if this unit is bad, then it is possible that it would grind, as the clutch would not fully engage/disengage.
One quick/easy way to check to see if there is a problem with the hydralics, is to check the clutch fluid. If it is low, most likely there is a leak....top it off and see if the problem goes away. If so then it is hydralics...although if it does not, it still does not eliminate the possibility of being the Slave Cylinder (the spring could be faulty on it). This is just the first thing I would personally do;)
Re: Need help with clutch problem!!! (pewter6spdC5)
sounds like a bad throwout bearing and it wore out the fingers of the pressure plate.if the slave part or any part of the hydraulic circuit had a problem, you should have a soft pedal and a notchy shift feel or grinding in to gear.the "whine"you describe may be normal[depending on how loud].if it's the noise i'm thinking of,it almost sounds like a tranny or rear running straight cut gears.this would be the prop shaft rear bearing.my car has done it since day one[kinda sounds cool].
