Is there a GM/Chevrolet/Corvette resource out there that lists the aftermarket modifications that do not affect factory warranty? Specifically, I am looking for an air intake system.
I'd like to see this list myself. The only GM-approved mod that I know of is the Corsa exhaust system.
My local Chevy dealer (which really sux) tells me anything that is mounted on the car other than GM-approved parts are NOT covered by warranty. This conflicts with information many have posted here on CF because their dealerships even install after-market mods for them.
I have seen a few manufacturer websites that say their products do not void warranty, but they do not give any support to back it up. Perhaps I will call customer service for the Blackwing.
This topic has been discussed many times before. At some dealerships, the Service Managers are pretty cool and accept modifications: some will even install them for owners that aren't mechanically able. At other dealerships, the Service Managers are totally intolerant. So, who's side is the Service Manager on? Probably the one that is paying his salary - the dealership. But he is mostly likely trying to do the "right thing", as his mind defines it. Is it fair to ask Chevy to replace a transmission under warranty for a C5 that has an aftermarket supercharger? I'd say no because the power being produced is way above what the transmission was designed for. How about an aftermarket air filter? Probable OK for some dealers and not OK for others. These units are advertised to produce more horsepower; so where does one draw the line. I think there's a Federal law that says a dealer can't turn down a warranty claim unless he can prove the modification was responsible for the damage. The practical aspect of this is that it much easier for the owner to work out a claim with a sympathetic Service Manager than going through a legal process. My best advice if you do not know the Service Manager is to return your C5 back to stock when taking it in for a warranty claim.
