I have a 2000 Conv. that everything about the air conditioner works great except the Mode switch. Fan speed works. Temp selector works. But, the unit blows out of all vents all the time. When you press the Mode button, it indicates that the unit is switching to my selection (floor, front, defrost, etc.) but nothing changes as to where the air is actually coming out from. Any suggestions?
Re: Air Conditioner Mode selector doesn't work! (nrsmith)
Common problem. In most instances it is caused by a vacuum leak, many times due to leaking battery eating through the line. Vacuum line runs from the rear of the intake mainifold, under the battery tray through the firewall to the BCM. Mine does it, just havent gotten around to fixing it.

:iagree: NOT
Based on your description, I believe you have the Dual Zone electronic unit. The Dual Zone unit does not use vacuum actuators, it uses electronic actuator motors to move the flow control doors.
Sounds like the motor that moves the flow door to change the mode from vent to floor is not working, either because the motor is dead or the unit has a problem.
The only thing you can try is to reset the unit by pulling the fuse for the A/C and letting the unit cycle through it's initialization routine which will move all actuators to calibrate the limits. If that doesn't work, it's like the actuator motor needs replacing.
Also, check the DIC codes since the Dual Zone A/C unit will kick out codes if it has a problem.

:iagree: Battery leak caused this problem on my car and I also have dual zone AC. I had dealer replace the vacuum lines and everything is back to normal. I would bet you have a leak, pull your battery and clean up the mess.
