Excessive Time to Center Steering. The H means it's a history code.

Thanks for the link...ever since we did the head/cam swap, I get an Active handling warming up every time the car is started and then exactly 15 minutes to the second, service active handling system and service car soon come up on the CIC. At that point I still have traction control working, but active handling does not.

Any thoughts?

The problem is that you disconnected the steering shaft from the steering rack without marking it's location. There is a yaw sensor on the steering column which tells the TCS computer where the steering wheel is in relation to center. Once you start driving straight the wheel speed sensors start spinning at the same speed. If the yaw sensor indicates an angle greater then 0 and the wheel speed sensors are all at the same speed, it knows something is out of whack.

Try disconnecting the 13mm bolt and rotate the shaft 360 degrees in one direction. Clear the codes and drive it. If that doesn't work go back the other way and an additional 360. Worse comes to worse go to the dealer and ask them to hook up a TEC2 scanner which will show the angle of steering yaw. If the wheel is straight it will read 0 when correct.

They way to avoid this is to pull the car in to the shop with the wheels straight. Lock the steering column and then disconnect the rack. When assembling get wheels going straight again and reinstall the steering shaft!

Hey 9d9ls1,
Thanks for the help, I'll try to rotate the steering wheel today and post the results. Hopefully this will cure the problem.

Thanks again.

9D9LS1...you are my hero. I rotated the steering wheel 360 degrees and so for no codes, no active handling warming up and no service active handling.

Hopefully it will stay that way.

Thanks again. :hurray:

Just when I thought my problems were over...now I'm getting a c1243 code(BPMV pump motor stalled) intermittently. I can reset the code through diagnostics and sometimes that is enough, other times I get service active handling system, service anti lock brake system and service traction control system.

Any ideas on this one? What is the BPMV- brake pressure monitoring valve? and where is it located?

Thanks again for any help.
