Hi everyone, I just got some work done and a dyno when it was done. I have Vortex, TPIS Long Tubes, Catless, B&B PRT, CC 230/232 112, Yank SS3800. LS1 Edit was done as well. The motor has 87k miles on it. I got 350 rwhp on the dyno. Those ok numbers?
Your numbers may be a little low b/c of the automatic, they don't show as well on the dyno. I got 354rwhp with an LS1 hotcam, ported TB,LS6 intake,Zip tied airbox, and stock exhaust. Who tuned your car ?
First impression - they seem low even with it being an automatic but I'm no expert and I can only tell you my experience.
I have a mild cam compared to yours, 226/226 something or other, TPIS, Blackwing, stock cats in place and Corsa Indy's, put down 372rwhp. This was my first wave of mods before heads and LS6 intake as seen in my sig #'s.
Sooo......... not sure that helps but I don't think your car being automatic is the best explanation for your numbers.
Your HP number seems low to me, but what you should be looking at is your TQ numbers. With a loose convertor, you should be making big TQ. I suspect your cam may be too big for stock heads, also. If the lift is over .550", you will get turbulence w/ stock heads.
Are you sure you didn't put your stock LS1 cam back in by mistake? Those are decent numbers for a non-cam'd car. My 98 T/A with a 224 thunder cam and full bolt ons(with SS3800) put down almost 390 HP/Torque. The SS Series is more efficient topend than your stock converter so you should see an increase in horsepower not a decrease.
What KIND of dyno, Mustang or Dynojet? Mustangs tend to give lower numbers. What measurement system, actual, STD, or SAE corrected. It'll make a difference. Most numbers you see quoted here are on a Dynojet 248, using SAE corrections. That's the best way to get an apples to apples comparison.
Good point.
If those are dynojet numbers they are very low for that big of a cam and longtubes to boot. See what it traps and maybe even dyno again -- good luck.
Hey guys, thanks for all for all of the replies. Numbers seemed low to me too, and Chris at Speeddemon who did all the work and the tuning. The only explanation he could come up with was the fact that the dynojet he uses is old and basically a piece. Dont know if I'm going to get any 1/4 mile times because 1. I've never done it before, and 2. I'm afraid my tranny would lose it(cant afford a new one right now). Car seems to run great, very nice kick in the pants compared to how it ran before. I expected around 380. He also said the run was with the TC unlocked. Torque numbers were good... cant remember exactly but they were higher than the hp numbers. Now I'm running through power steering fluid because it mostly ends up on my garage floor. Chris said he would take a look at that once I drive my ace all the way back to Houston, what do ya'll think? Easy fix?
SimplyRed- Where in San Antonio are you?
Thanks again for the opinions guys... preciate it.
My friend also had the same cam only package as you(230/232 .591 .595 112) on a 1998 model w/ M6 though. He made 374 so your #'s are inline and Chris said this dyno reads 290-300HP on a factory LS1 so you did gain 50HP.Call me after 9PM 979-324-2260 Wayne for more details about this dyno tune.
my car is maggied with LG headers and other bolt ons, no internal stuff, it dyned (very hot day) at 381 rwhp,,,,and figured out to be 485 at the crank,,,373 gears, a4 trans,,,,
It leaks no more  Shawn, I sent you one of those personal message things, not sure if you got it or not. I cant thank you enough for turnin that wrench for me, its a relief to know I dont have to drive my **** to Houston. Let me know when you are gonna put your ride on the dyno again so I can watch, and let me know when I can buy you lunch or something to show my gratitude! Saw you on 1604 yesterday... nice ride.
