A tuner recently suggested that I include new ARP rod bolts on my intended heads/cam/headers I hope to add to my 99 FRC soon.
My car has 72K on it, burns no oil and dynos a healthy 324 stock. Are rod bolts a required mod or do they fall into the nice to have category?
Should I just add them and not worry?
They are the weakest link on the rotating assembly, but I would be hesitant to install new rod bolts on a simple h/c and headers install..... :leaving:
I would just make sure you don't try and go above 6500 RPMS on stock rod bolts.
The stock bottom end can handle the H/C packages that are out there (there are a few radical packages making over 500rwhp still stock bottom end). The only time you should be worried about the bottom end is if you want to spin the motor up to around 7k rpm or you plan on doing forced induction or nitrous on top of the H/C.
