My 2000 coupe has been having strange noises coming from the rear of the car and I can't figure out what they are. When I let up on the clutch, I hear a creaking sound...like a bushing. But it also does it if I have the car in 1st or 2nd gear and repeatedly press/let up on the gas pedal. It doesn't sound like a ring/pinion clearance issue but definitely like a bushing. Are there any bushings on the diff/trans that would be affected by this torquing of the driveline? Could it be the bushing that goes on the otrque tube? I think I remember hearing about it being a weak link in the driveline??
I've gone up under the car and can't see anything, but bushings have a way of looking good while still being bad. The car has 29k miles and it's never been to the drag strip. I still have some GMPP warranty left and hopefully they will cover the problem, but I'm hoping for some feedback before I go to the dealer.

Re: Rearend noises...any ideas???? (Steve454)
The Torque Tube is not a weak link in the power train, But, anything can go wrong at any time. From what you describe, it could be coming from that area. Use that extended warranty, get it to a Good Dealer A.S.A.P. :chevy
i have an a4 that started making a creaking sound at the rear drivers side.i was at a+a corvettes when it happened.when in gear at idle with a little bit of throttle it would make a spring clicking sort of sound and it seemed to come from the hub area.also with the engine off and in gear we could push it slightly and get the same sound.after doublechecking everything with no success ,andy took off the hub nut and sprayed wd 40 type lubricant into the
shaft area (it was quite dry and rusty in there).tightened the nut back up and now no sound.
Well at first I thought it sounded like sway bar bushings but I had the same noise before and after installing the Z06 bars and metal end links. Also, if it were sway bars, wouldn't the noise also happen while driving over road imperfections?
I only hear it in first and second gear........but that is probably because there is less torque twist in higher gears (pure speculation). I'll go out today and retorque the sways but I really think it's something else.
I only heard mine while taking off, sometimes when shifting to second. Never on rough roads (not that we have that many here where we live!). The bushings were definitely my problem, it's been fine since. I hope you are in the same boat, it's a easy fix.
