I have a 99 Coupe that is in need of a transmission , I have talked to Genes Kar shop and have started putting together the parts to convert the car to a 6 speed from auto. Does anyone know if their is any articles about this or if a service manual would help my get this job done.
I read once that there is a wiring harness that is different depending if the car is a 6 speed or an A4. AND, that is was better to replace the harness with the (now) correct one - than to try and modify the existing one.

Forum member mfrnka did this recently and it wasn't just a 1 to 1 straightfoward swap. It's definitely something you need to plan for. Be ready for the little gotcha's that no one documents. You'll need to replace the harness as those above have indicated.
Best og luck if you decide to go foward with this.
Try a search. A few members have done this and posted
threads on it if you can find them. I believe at least one
of them got everything he needed in parts from Gene at
Kar Shop.
I just had this done with an outfit in Chicago, not sure how far you are from there. The name of the shop is powerhouse performance and the guy to talk to is Chris.....his number is 708-342-0043. Gene from carshop will have all the things you need but a new clutch is in order and you should have the six speed gone over that your putting in (or low, low miles). My car did need a new harness and I was lucky to find someone who was interested in going to an auto so we just swapped all parts and I paid for labor and a new clutch. My car has been fine with no codes or driveability issues.
