Default Valve spring help needed please............

Which spring would be the best to use with a 224/228 cam with .581/.588 lift? I'm thinking 918's but would almost like to go with a dual, just in case of spring breakage, but I'm not sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

the 918s would be perfect for your cam. A dual setup would be overkill and too much seat pressure for your application. Plus costs.

918's are just fine, I have 978's but I had to have my spring pockets cut in order to use them

I must know a dozen different guys running similar cams w/ .581" lift (XE-R lobes) w/ the 918 springs, no problems.

The reason that I wanted to run the duals is in case of spring breakage. I see that the 918's have a seat pressure of 130 lbs. and the Patriot duals have a seat pressure of 135 lbs. Does 5 lbs. make a big difference? I think that it's between the Crane duals, and the Patriot's. Both of them include Ti retainers, Viton seals, and Super 7° locks for under $300. It might be overkill, but I just thought that it was cheap insurance against dropped valves. I do appreciate you guys opinions though, as you know more than I do. :yesnod: Do you think that I'm off base here though? Thanks again for the help.

I to prefer dual springs, for the same reason you mentioned. Yes, the 918's will work just fine for that cam; I've got a good friend that has been running the same set-up for quite a while with no problems.

We're running a 224/224 .581/.581 Comp Cams XR grind in ours with the REV duals and they work great. Been running for over a year and 20+k miles with no problems
