I posted a thread on this earlier and didn't get much feedback, so I'll try again.
My compressor comes on for about 2-3 seconds, then turns off for 10-12 secs, then back on, etc. etc. The compressor continually cycles, but won't stay on. When it does stay on for the 2-3 secs, the air is cold & the fan motor works fine. The outside air temp reading in the car is also correct. I've checked all fuses and relays, which are also OK.
Any ideas on what to check for? Could it just be low on coolant? How do I check for codes?
That seems like a low refrigerant problem. My system did that whenver I activated the compressor after the system was evacuated (for my header install).
It went back to normal after I recharged the system. You might want to consider putting in some of the black light dye when you recharge the system so you can check for leaks.
Obviously, before you recharge check your high side and low side pressures with the a A/C gauge to make sure you've got correct reading.
There's a low pressure switch in the a/c system. If it is low on refrigerant charge, it will cycle on and off as the pressure rises and drops. If the system is completely out of refrigerant, the compressor will not engage at all.
Sounds to me like you are low on refrigerant charge. Time to have it checked for leaks, repaired, and recharged.

Yeah, that's what I thought, but after buying one of the Autozone refilling kits it seems as if I have plenty of refrigerant......or at least that's what the gauge told me.....so I didn't add any. :banghead:
