I'm going to put a cam (possibly heads too)on my car, and have it down to two. It's down to an Allan Futral FMS cam (F4, which is 226/226/.581/114), and a Cartek A4 2X cam (which is 224/228/.588/114). My car is a 2001 A4 with an FLP level IV trans, SY3500/3.42 car with FLP headers on it, Magnaflow catback, HallTech TRAP. The car is totally street driven, and driveability and reliability is my main concern over extracting every last ounce of power out of it (if that were the case, I'd be using a much bigger cam, and a different converter). Any help/advice/tips would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
Re: Which is a better cam?........................ (LuvmyC5)
I really like my F4. Driveability was pretty good even without tuning. I have a 6 spd so your automatic might behave differently. You will definitely need a tune.
I spoke at lenght with Alan Futral about what I wanted to do. I wanted a little lope but reliability over time. He does not use Comp XER lobe profiles on his cams. He uses Cam Motion lobes which don't quite have the aggressive ramp rate of the COMP XER's. Therefore his cams are friendlier to your valve springs. I gained 50 RWHP on a car running stock heads (LS1) and the stock exhaust manifolds and the stock airbox. I have now added the Halltech Stinger so I am now probably in the mid to upper 350's RWHP.
