Anyone have a formula to estimate what time you should run in the 1/4 if you know your RWHP?? I had my car dynoed on a Mustang Dyno at 322 RWHP just curious what I might run. The dyno place told me mid to high 12's.
I've not found the various estimators available on the net to be of much help in predicting real world performance. Too many variable that are overlooked.
It takes a very good driver and good track/weather conditions to get a near stock C5 into the 12s. There is only one way to find out if you and your car can do it and that involves a trip to the track.
Said another way, it take practice to launch a traction limited car and get it into the 12s. Some guys manage to do it with practice and the right conditions. But almost no one does that without making quite a few passes to learn what works and to inbed muscle memory.

Where did you have your car dynoed? Livernois and APE, both use, AFAIK, Mustang dynos which are typically more conservative than Dynojets. I dynoed last year at DSW (now Livernois) at 302.5 and subsequently ran a 13.3 @ 110 MPH at Milan. Considering that your car dynoed twenty rwhp more than me I would venture to say that you should run (depending on traction) a high 12 or very low 13 at approximately 112 MPH.
mdhmi , you must have had a traction problem with that mph (110).
i see you have 6spd. i seen a z06 this sunday do a 13.10 . he spun in
1st, 2nd, and little in 3rd. good ole good years for you.

Yea, I was launching at 0 rpm's trying trying to baby my clutch.
Here is an example of one of my time sheets from last season:
Reaction Time: 1.72 (I must have been naping)
60ft: 2.417
330ft: 6.112
ET @ 594ft: 8.502
1/8 ET: 9.032
1/8 MPH: 85.02
1000ft ET: 11.487
1/4 ET: 13.536
1/4 MI: 110.26
That wasn't my best run, but, you can see that traction is definitely an issue.
I Dyno tuned at APE and they had this little chart for estimated 1/4 mile times and speeds and they said mid to high 12's at approx. 112 mph. I need to get to the track this summer and let her rip!! The problem is, I heard that the tracks here in Michigan will kick me off the track if I run under a 13.5 with a Vert without a roll bar!! That Stinks!!!!
There is no way really to tell what you will run, I have heard people with about 400- 450 rwhp run in the 10's. Sticky tires, low gearing, good driver, cold temps, will make a big difference, But if I had to guess probally a flat 13 on stock tires

I would agree with their estimates provided you have *good* tires and are an experienced racer. As for the roll bar issue, you should be able to get a few runs in before the track complains .. One of our fellow CF guys runs in the 11's and, AFAIK, gets at least two runs in before the track prevents him from running. Drop me a line if you want to head out to the track one of these days.
Another thing, you could get a Meter like the Escort G-Timer or Gtimer2. I got the GT2, and it is actually pretty close to actual track results. makes it nice when comparing a mod, but not having the time to go to the track.
All you need to know to get good results is the weight of your car, with you in it. I would Calibrate it at the track to see how far it is off, but my experience is that it is consistent, so if it's .15 off, it will always be .15 off.
Nice to know when you can't make it to the track, and it also does cornering Gs and breaking Gs too... but I recommend the GT2 so you can hook it up to a notebook and download the runs.
Sounds good, will do! I know George8211 wants to hit the track too so we could get a crew together and go have some fun!!
Sounds like fun. Which track do you guys want to hit? I hear Milan is VERY busy on Wed and Sat though -- you guys wanna give Lapeer a shot? Not the nicest track around, but, we should be able to get in more runs..
I go to Milan and watch my brother in law race and I've seen a Black Convertible that is running 9's or 10's and they didn't kick him off. He only had those chrome seat hoops and that doesn't protect you. He is always out there. He is a Detroit Cop and he owns a performance shop. I'd try Milan. I'm going to get a 4.10 and a cam this summer and hopefully I'll be in the high tens and I have no plans of ever putting a roll cage in my car.
Cool, Maybe the rumers are false then. George was talking about a track up in the thumb and he said you can get 20 or so runs in a day compared to 5 or so at milan or lapeer???? I have never been to any of them so its a toss up for me. We need to set something up though!!!
I live in Troy and have a Vert. also. I race at MIlan & Ubly on test & tune days (Wed.@Milan,Sat.@ Ubly and have never had any problems.Ubly is agreat track if you want to get in a lot of runs in a short period of time.

Re: 1/4 Mile Time Estimator??? (Ranger)
A G-Tech performance computer can measure your acceleration with on-board accelerometers. Most people that have correctly calibrated theirs to the car get within about 0.2 to 0.3s and 3 mph of the actual track times from what I have seen.
One thing I have noticed is that a good street will often allow you to get MUCH better traction than many tracks on street tires at least! The G-Tech will allow you to directly compare the two, I haven't had a chance to compare them yet, but the G-Tech is pretty close and logs everything to be printed out later. :smash:
