Wheel Weight Location
All the best. :yesnod:

I've gone to weight tape on all my vehicles.
You will get a better balance with the weights mounted to the inside and outside lips of the wheel. The trick is to spread out the weights at the furthest points, and to use as little weight as possible at one location. This is s best achieved with the rim weights. Depending on exactly where the imbalance is, you may or may not notice an imbalance with stick-ons. Front wheel imbalances are much more noticeable than rear wheel problems, as the vibrations and balance harmonics are sent thru the steering wheel. Sometimes you will have an imbalance that is nearer to an edge of the wheel or tire, and this type of problem is better corrected with the rim weights. It just depends on how picky you are, where the problem is and the current moon-phase. :)
That being said...... I have not had a problem with using the stick-on weights on my Z06. The clamp on weights cause a mark on the outside lip that is just plain ugly once they are removed, and the weights themselves are fugly. If you still have your OEM weights on your wheels, then you can carefully use a Dremel tool w/ a cutoff wheel to remove the original weights... leaving very little if any damage behind. Email me if you want the details of this procedure.
I have never had a stick-on weight come off, and you probably won't either during normal street driving. Just make sure you personally clean the entire wheel with something like Simple Green before you have the new weights put on. The aluminum tape is an added measure of security..... and mandatory for some sanctioned racing events.
