Well I went to the track last night for the first time this year. Rolled up and did a little burn out. Launched at about 3 grand and boom. Didn't go anywhere. I was running on the old stlye bfg drag radial. So anyone who says unless you make over 400rwhp, you don't need it. Don't listen to them.
Time to shop for 390's and hardened output shaft. Too bad no one is open on Saturday.
I'll let you know what happens

Also I say a 2004 Cobra with 3800km blow a chunk of his diff the size of a softball out, and he was only on stock tires. he also snapped an output shaft too!
Re: SNAPPED MY OUTPUT SHAFT LAST NIGHT (Phil97SVT)
Why is that?? I heard you say that before, Don't they hook harder??
Now that I'm opening it up, I might as well swap gears.
Phil you run a 100 shot like me. What ratio you use. I want to make sure I don't have to shift to fifth. What do you think.
STEVE
Is that what you run???
You think the D/R are really that bad. I don't like the feel of a slick up top. Also I think it's pretty cheesy running slicks unless your car is extremely fast. But that is just M/O

I run 3.90s with a 26' tall ET street. We try to launch the car @ 6000 - 7000 on the spray or all motor. ET streets have a rubberband effect that allow the inital shock is ramp in at a slow rate.

Re: SNAPPED MY OUTPUT SHAFT LAST NIGHT (blackroadster)
3.90 and 4.10 gears are extremely rare these days. Phil at DynoTech Engineering recently received a shipment of 3.90s; get one while they are available. DTE's hardened output shafts and diffs are some of the best around.
Re: SNAPPED MY OUTPUT SHAFT LAST NIGHT (2C5only21)
What is the output shaft? Is it the shaft that comes out of the back of the trans? If so, I guess that requires the trans to be taken apart for install??

The output shaft that we are referring to is the left output shaft that is in the differential that connects to the left rear axle. This tends to be a weaker point than the right output shaft.
Re: SNAPPED MY OUTPUT SHAFT LAST NIGHT (blackroadster)
When you launch on ET streets you can see the sidewall flex.
I also broke my left side output shaft about 4 years ago w/ Nitto Drag Radials and replaced the shaft w/ a stock shaft due to the fact that aftermarket shafts were not available at the time.
blackroadster-
We can build you a HP differential that is built to withstand the abuses of the dragstrip and we have a drivetrain component dealer for our products located in Calgary, Canada that can sell you the differential you need. The shop is called Davenport Motorsports and their website is: http://www.davenportmotorsports.com/store/index.asp
Ask for Steve, the owner and he can steer you in the right direction. :)
Best Regards,
Phil- DTE
