Just replaced mine. It is on the inboard side of the driver's side fuel tank. There are fuel tank shields covering the bottom of each fuel tank. Remove the shield (five bolts). It is best to get the car up in the air. The filter is bolted directly above the driver's exhaust on the side of the fuel tank. Mine (1997) had one line going in and one line exiting, round and about 2 inches in diameter. The exiting connection developed a serious/dangerous leak.
I'm getting a very slight knock sometimes when i get gas on base, would changing it out possibly help with that. Only reason i don't just get gas off base is that it costs more than twice as much
The fuel filter should have nothing to do with Knock. I suspect low octane and the knock sensor is retarding the spark. If you buy gas on base,, consider 3/4 on base 1/4 off base of prem. to see if it helps with knock.
If you are getting knock,, Do not use heavy throttle on acceleration until you solve the knock. If 3/4 1/4 doesn't work, you might try a different blend.
