A couple of days ago I got a "Low Washerfluid" message on the DIC, so I filled the resevoir and the light is still on. In the past when this message has come up, the message goes away once I fill it back up.
This time the message will not go away. I pressed "RESET", but when I start the car up again, the message reappears.
I figure it is probably a bad sensor, but I want to be sure before I order a new one. Does anyone have any insight on this problem?
The sensor for the low fluid warning is a swing arm and a magnetic switch, on my car the swing arm was too tight and did not move freely. You can remove the sensor easily and once it is out check the movement of the arm, if it is tight or binds, just pop out the pin and file off a little material and then re-assemble, it's an easy DIY job.
Thanks! Do I need to drain the washer fluid, or can I just pull out the sensor?
My car is not here right now for me to check it. For sure though if you can see the sensor and remove it, washer fluid will drain out if it's full. I took the whole reservoir off when I did mine, but I don't think you really have to. You could siphon out the fluid or just let it empty and hose it down later, it won't hurt anything under it.
The sensor is on the side towards the back of the car near the bottom of the tank. Yes if you pull it out all your fluid will drain out. Try just wingling it and the float may free up. Good luck!
