Got in, turned key, absolutely nothing!
Hi Guys,
Got in the Vette this morning, turned key, absolutely nothing! Strange, very strange. No lights, no radio, nothing. This has never happened to me before. I will admit i had to go to work and didn't get a chance to try and jump the battery. Other than a dead battery which I admit it may be but I didn't get a chance to try, what could it be?
Strange, very strange...never had this happen to me. Absolutely nothing when I turn the key.

If you're still toting the stock battery in your 97 Vette, you have a VERY high mileage battery.
Pitch that biatch and get an Optima Red Top from Pep Boys, Advance, and most other auto parts stores. Cost around $100.
While you have the old battery out, check your wiring harness under the battery mount for any damage from leaking battery acid. The old batteries have a bad history of doing this.
EDIT: Just thought of the obvious. Pull the terminals, clean them, and try to start the car again. It may be as simple as that. You can also take it to Advance or Pep Boys and they can test it for you.

Probably a dead battery, has it sat for over 2 weeks? Other possibility, the dreaded leaking battery, but that might be a longshot. Good luck with it and let us know.

It could also be a missread of the electronic pellet on the key. If the battery checks out, clean the pellet on the key, and the contacts inside the keyslot.

With what do I clean the pellet/key? Just some rubbing alcohol?
Re: Got in, turned key, absolutely nothing! (lioninavette)
Rubbing alcohol should be fine to clean it. It shouldn't be that if you aren't getting any lights though. Is it dinging with the key in and door open? Do the headlights work with the switch? Those things should work even with the wrong key.

Mike,
Nothing, nothing at all happened. That is what is so surprising.
I will check at 6:00 when I get home with my other key, but the one I always use produced no electrical activity.
