Y2K Tire Choice Q

I've got two new Kumho Ecsta MX 255/45/17 [26.1"] tires to mount on stock front wheels. I need to buy two rear tires. Kumho sells 275/40/18 [26.1"] and 295/35/18[26.1"] tires. Any problems with either combo?

Here are two concerns that I'M wondering about:

1) 255/45/17 and 275/40/18 maybe more understeer because of fatter front tire
2) 255/45/17 and 295/35/18 the rear tire is a little wide for a 9.5" rim

Anything you'd like to add and/or suggest?

I believe that the diameter of the fronts must be about an inch smaller than the diameter of the rears to avoid active handling problems.

I can tell you that the C5 system is programmed to see a 4% larger diameter in the rear. In other words when the rear tires are turning 4% slower that the front the ABS and so on assummes all tires are turning at the same speed and there is no slippage.
