Stock Z06 plus AFR Heads!!!!!
so I decided to call LAPD and see what they could do for me. I spoke with Al and discussed my goals and what I was trying to accomplish. To be honest, I was really hoping just to make over 400hp at the rear wheel and retain all my stock drivability. Al thought we could make that number with just the addition of the new AFR heads, in conjunction with my recent tuning & cold air intake. In a nutshell he was right....We made 409 hp and 391 ft lbs and all I can say is the car feels incredible! Power was up across the board over the entire dyno run. The graph is in my signature.... check it out!! Bottom line, my stock Z06 with the addition of the new AFR heads and cold air intake is making somewhere around 475 hp.
I just really want to the thank all the guys over at the LAPD. You guys are the best I will recomend you to everyone I know...
Thanks again,
Stan
PS Great job AFR!!!
Mark
You wouldnt happen to have a copy of both graphs overlayed would you?
Some headers and an opened up exhaust would compliment that setup very nicely! That would easily put you in the 430-440rwhp range, and with an LS6 cam!!
Thanks for posting your results, THIS is the exact setup I was looking for. I wonder what it would do with an LSX and 90mm TB
Edit: I remember reading the buildup on Speed Inc's ZO6 and here were their results
Basline Stock............................... 354/347 --
Stock w/dynotuning...................... 360/357 --
Blackwing Induction..................... 371/366 12.21/116.86
Stainlessworks Headers (no cats).. 387/373 --
Same w/ Tuning.......................... 393/385 --
RGR Heads w/ 1.85 SLP Rockers... 424/395
This is probably the best step by step buildup that has been documented, at least that I have seen, on a Z and the dyno numbers are right on par with what others dyno.

The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
Those are very impressive gains and what a sleeper! It's so hard to imagine that less than a year ago this level of power increase mandated a 224 cam, headers, cat back, etc......
......you chose your mods very wisely and essentially added 55 RWHP / 50 RWT over stock with the only addition being the AFR 205 heads and a cold air intake!!! Congrats to you and those involved
Now, with the new AFR 205 heads and some awesome tuning the rwhp has increased by 50 rwhp and over 30 lbs of torque! Everything else is stock!!
The car idles like stock, runs even smoother than from my last tune and so far, it looks like my mileage is up a bit too!!
The car has a deeper exhaust note and pulls [much/b} better from the lower rpm's ( 24lbs more torque better) than from my last tune and I was pretty darn happy with that.
Yes, headers would open things up as would a cam. But, if I'm driving across country and run into any problems and pull into a Chevy dealer, I don't want any hassles about " oh, you modded your car with headers I see and gee, it sounds like you have a cam also...I don't know if warranty will cover your engine problem sir"
Honestly, I'm right where I want to be and the car is stock looking and just hauls butt when the go fast pedal is mashed
Cold air intake, AFR heads and the right tune will set you free
(IMHO) free of any worries about anything
Call Al at LAPD and he will quote you prices. Also, Al can answer all tech questions about these beautiful heads.

If you plan on continuing down the round of 110% stock sounding and appearing. Plus stock drivability, here are a few options.
You might consider an upgrade to the SLP 1.85 rocker arms or a similar rocker arm package to get you a bit more duration + degress, and some more lift on the stock Z06 Cam.
I know Speed Inc. made 400+RWHP with a set of rocker arms and a stock cam with headers and some mildly ported heads.
If not, you might consider one of the very stock sounding cams like the LPE GT2-3 which is basically a bigger version of the Z06 cam but 100% stock sounding.
Good luck with your car, and thanks for posting the results.

Although we did think about those options but again, you're talking about more money than I wanted to spend and my project was with only these two mods and what gains could be expected. It would only get better no doubt. At least now you know what you can do with heads and intake and have a better idea of the total gains as you move up the mod list if you wish to do so
I don't race the car, so right now I'm just going to enjoy it

that would mean that you got a 24 hp gain with heads and tuning only right? over 400rwhp with those mods alone is very impressive and would be interested to know how much power is possible with headers and a cam but I'm just trying to get clarification cause i'm confused about the link to the 385 dyno.
jrod is right... with the right cam like the gt2-3, it would prob sound smoother than stock with that lsa. might as well get a decent set of headers. my car still sounds practically stock with the kooks and no engine mods.
if you had to take the car in for any engine work, the jig would be up with the different heads anyways or you'd probably have to mention the heads so they didn't mess anything up with them or the tuning. non engine work shouldnt effect warranty.
congrats!

Yes, my final tune was 385 before the heads. But, starting from stock at 355, if I installed the heads at that time and the tune from LAPD, these are the gains that you should see. We have been tweaking the tune and each time we've gotten more and more...impressive however you look at it
but gee, with a mild cam upgrade and headers...

400 is a great #!
This is sort of the scenario I'm comtemplating for my coupe (granted 400 will be a little harder to get).
