I have heard all the stories about damage to radiator fins and the clogging effect of road debri on C5 models, is this the case? If so does the mesh sheild offered in the mail order catalogs help or just restrict airflow. Anyone have a little input? Thanks.
Yes, they work well and prevent the car from turning into a shop vac. It is stll advised to pull them off once a year to clean sand, etc off fins. I think Thunder Racing had the first one, but Mid America sells a similiar one as well.
Air flow with screen is a non issue.

I made my own from black fiberglass screen and aluminium strip,(hardware store), for about $4.
Just installed the Mid America screen. Works great, easy to install. It's basically just diamond shaped gutter screen cut to the size of the opening (for $60). I thought it was supposed to come with front lip trim bar, but it didn't, so it's not as clean an installtion as I would like it to be.
You could drive around your neighborhood and look for someone replacing their screens, take them off their hands and accomplish your objective w/o spending any money at all. You could also buy a product and install it yourself spending beween $4 and $120 depending on your choice of vendors.
I spent $90 and have an SS screen that took ten minutes to install, excluding all the drive around time required for all the DIY components. Best,
