I searched on here and didnt find to much. a dozen hits
I just ordered the TR224. My set up is 2000, C5, 6 Sp, Vararam, LS6 manifold, Kooks LT headers with X-pipe and cats, GHL exhaust.
If you have JUST the TR224 with 918's and new rods, how many miles do you have on it, has anything broke, and issues ,codes, hood and shifter shake etc
chime in TR224 only guys. thanks
Re: Thunder Racing TR224 cam issues (phils C5 vette)
I have 5000 miles on mine and the only problem I have is a PO300 code (misfire) usually when I let it idle for a long time. Nothing to worry about. You shouldn't have any issues. Most of the miles on my car are Track Day Events where I drive the car HARD! Enjoy!!! :flag
do you just reset the DIC code?
It will take me 2 years to get 5000 miles on mine
how long does the car sit when it throws the code, and how often does it throw a code ?

Phil,
I had the 224 cam from MMS that was very similar to the TR cam in my Camamro SS. This cam would set the P0300 code everytime I would idle for more than a minute or so, so basically at every stoplight. That's even when I bumped the idle up a bit.
You can either just reset the code, or as I did and would do again, set the P0300 code in LS1Edit/other not to set the SES light, or delete the code all together.
The P0300 code is normal after installing a higher performance cam (and heads) depending on the size of the cam. Increasing the idle won't help remove the code. Without tuning (LS1Edit), the PCM is looking for a stock cam and will usually set this code if the cam exceeds its "thresholds" thinking that its misfiring. Any tuner can adjust the sensitivity/thresholds in the PCM without a dyno so you won't throw this code anymore. I had this code after having my H/C and the tuning adjustments fixed this code.

TR224 cam here, but with Crane dual valvesprings and Manley locks. No breakage thus far with ~5000 miles, including three hard days on road courses at Pocono and Indy Raceway Park.
Reason I went with Crane springs instead of Comp 918 is my need for the extra insurance a dual coil provides. Snap the big spring, and the little inner one will usually hold the valvetrain together...you'll just get misfires on that cyl at anything above idle.
Re: Thunder Racing TR224 cam issues (phils C5 vette)
Phil,
My setup is almost the same, NA... if your on a 112lsa. I have right around 8k on it so far. I've done the tuning to it and have cleared up almost all of the tuning issues that you'll encounter with that cam. There is a lot of info out there regarding tuning. I really dont follow the tuning posts here at the CF as there doesnt seem to be quite as many people on this site that do their own tuning., but LS1tech has a ton of info... just plug TR224 into the Tuning Forum search(message headers, not body) and you get all the info you need.
Untuned, it ran pretty good out of the box, but you will probably run in to cold/warm start, idle, and engine code issues. Engine codes seem to mainly be the P0300 code(random misfire). There may be others but they are rare. There is some shifter shake, which is normal with any cam that has a noticable overlap.
What was done to my .ls1 file: (from memory, so dont quote me on it)
+2 deg timing up to 1200rpms, less than .4g/sec
VE scaled 75/85/95% first three cols.
Idle air bumped up a bit
Idle speed raised +25rpm(some others go +50)
Rev Limiters set to 6800
P0300 Disabled
Rear O2s are still on(never had an issue yet)
These are the main changes for the cam. I have a few more from an actual tuning standpoint, but for general drivability the ones listed work pretty well. I still have a slight warm start issue. It starts fine, but it sometimes hunts for idle for approx 10-15 sec if you get on the gas in gear then push the clutch in right after starting, like backing out of a parking space. I havent had time to try to nail this down.
FYI, my mods are(NA):
TR224 on a 112 with TR Pushrods and CC918s
LS6 intake, Ported TB, Stock MAF, Donaldson
Kooks 1.75 Longtubes with cats, Corsa Indy
Mike, thanks for getting specific. That's what im looking for. Im running stock LS1 heads. I know that's not the best, but I dont want to tear up the car either. when it hunts for an idle, how high does the idle get, or does it just go low?
Phil

Can you tell me how this works exactly?
I have LS-1 Edit.

Go to the engine diagnostic tab in Edit. Then Test Parameters. In misfire detection, raise, in the idle and low rpm tables, all the values to 32,000. Leave the other tables alone so that you still get true misfire detection.
