Im looking for some input on a Kirban or Hurst shifter. Im gonna change out the stock shifter and was looking for Pros and Cons on both. I had my heart set on a Hurst but few people at performance shops said Kirban was the way to go. Thanks for any advice.
could of got any shifter ,but I got the Hurst because of adjustability& price, works great & not 1 problem,I think thats why the majority of people here have one.
Hurst for me too! It's been in for two years now, and I'm completely satisfied with it's performance. Some people clain that they "rattle", but mine doesn't, however I also installed one of the large, round aluminum shift ***** at the same time.
Lots of folks have different shifters. I almost got Hurst but went with a Ripper instead about two years ago. Little stiff but just goes click, click, no rattle. :flag
Both are great shifters and both are MUCh better than stock, two advantages of the Hurst compared to the Kirban though, Hurst has adjustable springs and Hurst has a shorter throw.

That being said, I love my Hurst shifter.
I have a Kirban and absolutely love it...but if I were buying again and prices were equal, I'd pick up a Hurst because the centering tension is adjustable with the springs.
The Kirban springs can be changed as I've done it, but you have to take the unit apart and buy your own springs in whatever tension you want- where as the Hurst, you just lift up the shift boot, swap with whatever ones you want that come with the kit and put the boot back down.
All aftermarket shifters will experience some buzzing/rattling in some circumstances without a heavy enough shift ****.
FWIW, I asked a couple months ago and they said the Pro 5.0 for the C5 may be out late August. Many f-body people seem to like it. Mine is getting a little sloppy at 50K but I think I'll wait and give it a try. http://pro50shifters.meridian1.net/default.asp
Lots of great after market shifters out there, depends on what you want. Having had Rippers and others over the years in vettes and 'stangs, I have noted the only downside is that many rattle and/or make other noise.
(In my '04 black on black C5, I'm going for subtle and powerful as the long term build objective; and am working slowly thru the warranty period now.)
If all you want is to shorten the throw rather than that provide by the stock shifter, you can try shortening the stick by about 1.5 ". 21st Cent MC here in Dallas has it down to a art, stock **** reinstalls with no problem. Cost, $75; and the shifter is as quiet as "stock".
