Diagnos this...6-speed shift problems in my 97

Grinding as I upshift or downshift into fifth. Also, I literally have to knock the trans out of sixth. Shifting into and out of all other gears is fine. The is no indication of clutch slippage.

This came on gradually during a road trip yesterday. Could this just be an adjustment to the linkage, a thrust bearing or something worse.

Thanks for any thoughts and ideas.

If you double clutch it, can you get 5th and 6th gear in and out with no problems?

Worn 5th gear engagement teeth and 5-6 slider. Unit will need to be repaired.

Yes, from sixth to fifth. Not from fourth to fifth.

Not yet. There has been no signs of leakege.I did check the clutch fluid...it was ok.
