Default Problem with Door Locks...need help

I am having a problem with my driver's side door lock. The door will not lock when using the button on the driver's or passenger's door, nor the key fob.

The passenger side door locks and unlocks fine when I use either the fob or the button on the driver's side. Also, when locked manually, the driver's side door will unlock normally, using the methods mentioned above.

I had the door panel off this weekend to put on my new VE handles, so I checked to make sure that all connections were tight and that the metal arms connected to the door lock were attached.

Does anyone know what could be causing this? The only thing I can think of is that there is a problem with the lock control module that is attached to the inside of the door.

Has anyone else had this problem? I really don't want to take my car in for service/warranty, because the dealer manages to mess something else up every time I do. Sould I just buy a new lock control?

Please advise,

Chris

Unfortunately, it's fairly common. If you do a search on door locks you'll find lots more than you want, evidencing that these modules fail at a regular rate. I had them both changed in my car in the first two years of its life, and the passenger side one has started dying again.

Good luck.

more than likely it's your DCM... it is a common problem... there are also some issues with pinched wires inside the rubber accordian duct in the front door jam at the "A" pillar..
The DCM is the black box in the lower center of the door..
The door control module lists for $244.25
GMparts direct sells it for around $ 138 dollars plus shipping.

Thanks for the info! I didn't realize it was such a common problem.

The funny thing is that when I had to go to the dealer on Sat. for some door pins, I walked over to service and talked to one of the advisors and a tech, and they never even mentioned for me to look at the DCM... idiots!

Now I have to decide if I will break down and buy it my self and replace, or take it in for warranty. If I take it in, I will definately take the door panel off first.

Also, I will check the wires in the duct later today just to make sure. Just so I can eliminate posibilities, do I need to worry about the box inside the door (attached to the door jamb, where the sticker is) that is attached to the metal arms? I just want to eliminate posibilities if I am going to but the part my self.

Thanks,

Chris

Get a price from Bob in parts at Fitchner for the unit shipped to you before you run the shipping and handling gauntlet at GM Direct.

You can take the door panel off , the DCM wont move.. it it secured inplace.. I would let the warranty handle it.. but make sure you get permission from the dealer to remove the door panel.. Dealers look for any excuse to make you pay, threaten you with voided warranty etc.,.. I could not wait to get out from under the gm warranty...
