Wiring or oil temp sensor may be bad. The sensor is located right above the oil filter on the side of the block. 2 13mm bolts I think.

Sounds like a bad sensor. The DIC will display LOW OIL TEMP instead of a numerical reading when the oil temp falls below around 16F. Since you're in FL, I'm sure that's not the case.

If you don't have any codes indicating a corcuit issue, i.e. open circuit, chances are the temp sensor just went bad.

Or the wire fell off the sensor.

Default Coolant & oil temperature LOW

Just bought this new car a week ago, and its doing a funny thing.

Very odd my coolant sensor for the last couple days has been reading at 67 degrees F. Today the oil temperature read as LOW? Everyonce in a while the coolant sensor reads a low temperature, and if you turn off the engine it will not restart for 30 minutes to an hour.

My thought with two sensors not giving the correct read out means the problem is not the sensors themselves, although might be due to a charging problem. (have not confirmed although every time i get the problem the battery power reads approximately 13.5V) Why I think this is the guy who sold me the car put a new cheap battery in the car, and I do not know what the correct AMPS for a C5 battery should be, anyone know?

My question is can anyone comment on the above, and does everyones battery digital read outs always read 14.4V?

Sounds like incorrect data from the sensors. Have them checked and see what gives!

This isn't necessarily a problem so before replacing sensors or turning your car over to JoJo the Goodwrench Monkey Boy, let's clarify a few things.

Your avitar says Florida, but is that where you are when this happens?

When you start the car and the oil temp is below something like 116-120F, the oil temp will read LOW TEMP and will stay there indefinitely as you drive even after an hour when you know the temp is 200F.

If you shut the car down for a while (sometimes only 10 minutes, sometimes 30+) and then start it up again, it will read the right temp.

This seems to be the way the BCM works - the LOW TEMP condition sets a flag in the BCM to stop reading the sensor, and then eventually it resets on the next start cycle.

Let us know if this is the case.

If it's not and you are still in FL, then the sensor is likely bad or the connector is corroded or disconnected.

I live in the NY State and my oil temp reads numbers in the 40s. Over the last few days it has read 41 when I start the car and gets to about 139 by the time I get home or to work. I have never seen the Low Temp reading and have never had to restart the car to get it to reset the readings.

My voltmeter reads 14.4 (alternator voltage) most of the time when the car is running. It reads 12V when the car isn't running.

Default Coolant temperature reading low

First off the coolant sensor has been reading much lower than it should be multiple times normally in the range of 60 degrees F. Oil temperature only flagged as LOW once this morning once.

Will update my profile as I am in Vancouver, BC, Canada average daily temperature is 40 degrees F. or 0-5 degress celcius. Antifreeze in car is rated for -30F so freezing lines is not the issue.

My feeling is that both sensors dying at the same time is unlikely, so most likely there is a common link between these two problems. Furthermore the sensors work about 50% of the time. For example they did not work to work yesterday, although were fine coming home.
In addition to this happening the battery reading comes in at 13.5V, which I do not know if this is normal? Should it not always be 14.4 or will it fluxate on these vechicles?

Furthermore what AMP load do C5 come with stock from the factory? My first thought is with this cheap battery the car is not charging absoutely accurately, and this is what is making the sensors not read correctly?

ANY THOUGHTS?

Default Coolant temperature reading low

When the car is on does it always read 14.4V? 12V is normal when the car is off.

Furthermore the OIL low flags resetting themselves after the car has been turned of sounds like normal car computer operations. Although when the problem occurs the car will not restart for 30 minutes? My belief is the computer has detected an error and is not allowing the car to startup or deliver fuel to the cylinders?
