Well, the tranny shop told me it was bad/worn out. However, they want $2800-3000 including labor to rebuilt it. This is with high performance parts according to them that are much stronger then stock with blue devil clutch packs, some type of 5 pin gear instead of 4, and something made by “beast”, and metal O rings among other things? Anyhow, I’ll get a complete parts list this afternoon.
I know FLP has transmission for less then these, but they are backed up for 3 weeks. I needed the car by next weekend. Is there anyone else I should check out!?
I hope they offered a more specific explanation than "bad" or "worn out". If they didn't/can't I would feel like they were out for a nice chunk of change, particularly if they know you're hot to get it back right quick. Are they a shop you have confidence in? Have you or someone you know done business with them before?
At a minimum I'd try to get a second opinion on their assessment from somebody knowledgeable, maybe Crashed 94 or somebody like that. I know you need/want a nice tranny for your setup, but you want it on your terms.
Yes they did. I'm picking up a parts list in the morning. Talked to Andy at A&A and he said the price was fair, as they are also upgrading it to a 5 pin planetary, along with other more heavy duty parts. They said the clutch packs (don't quote me, will know exactly when I see them in the morning) were burnt pretty good. I told them I want the 1 year warranty if we do it.
sounds like that trans shop has some good ideas... umm but I thought that the C5's 4L60E came with the 5 pinion plant from the factory.. also one thing I've seen and have on my car is a vaccum modulator from trans go I've seen them on FLP's trans.. might be something to look into it replaces the Line Pressure soleniod with a mechanical vaccum modulator to help with pressure rise problems and keep you from burning up your frictions.. seems to be working pretty good for me..

Thats a very good price considering the labor is included, I spent almost that much on the FLP, converter and cooler and then had to wait 2 weeks and do the work myself
Excellent! Always nice to be able to point to broken parts and know what happened. I guess I'm surpised you were not also throwing other codes though. So does it look like you'll get it back in time to go have fun?
