Re: Weiand Intake (jjk2509)
A few months ago I saw a mag article (I don't remember where) dyno testing all the various manifolds.
The Weiand came in last-as I remember about 20 HP lower than LS1/ZO6.
But they indicated that it had a lot of meat in it to port out.
I have no idea what the results of that would be if really hogged out!

I tried the Weiand and had alot of high temperature issues. I think the Weiand would be a great intake manifold if you were running nitrous (dry system) as the runners are quite beefy and can be easily drilled or ported, but other than that the composite intakes don't hold as much heat and are also significantly lighter.
Just my $.02.
by the way I switched back to an LS6 manifold after only 1 month.
I knew when they came out that they were a POS... one time at an autocross I saw a guy with one on his car... So I asked him some technical questions regarding the new intake. I was really hoping to hear something positive about that new intake.. since he didnt know the answers to the questions I was asking... he got pissed off at me.. I tiied to explain that that intake was best suited for large CI engines as it was something that could be ported... Oh well... its his car and if he wants to put stuff on it that makes it slower.. then so be it!
I researched this recently, I wanted it for the wow factor to go along with the direct port nitrous system. That intake lends itself to heat soak - a better solution is to either paint your manifold, or go to kewl products and get one of thier intake covers... They look great!
I agree a number of tuners tried them when they first came out and the heat soak issue cost 20 to 30rwhp in all the reviews I read at the time--I have read nothing on anyone hogging one out however, maybe its possible to hog one out and make enough power to compensate but I would be surprised if hogging any manifold would give back 20 to 30rwhp--
I had one of the Weiands chopped up and bolted to adapter plates to match up with my C5R heads. Under this configuration it is a big POS as it can't flow enough air above 6000 rpms for a 4 banger. It does heat soak, but the dyno indicated loss is less than 10 rwhp.
