do you have any codes??? If so, let us know what they are and that will lead you to the problem.

I get a history code only. And it is not on the list of codes I have. C1288 in the TCS module. The odd thing is that the traction control still works even after the error occurs.

I am reading from my 97 manual but yours should be very similar. That code is for the steering position sensor. When this code is current the Magnasteer is disabled which means the steering should be harder. ABS/TC remain active with this code.

By the way it means the system can't figure out exactly where the steering is pointed so Active Handling can't be activated.

Bill

I had this problem with my '99. It was the steering position sensor at the base
of the steering column.

If you decide to tackle this yourself, I found that there is enough play in the
wires connected to the column that they don't need to be disconnected
(which is good since you don't mess with the airbag wiring).

The hardest part is the U-joint on the steering shaft in the engine compartment,
which is a pain due to its location.
