I was under the car and noticed 2 rather pathetic heat shields over the 2 mufflers, has anyone designed and built a better one? Maybe one that would block some of the resonance as well as heat? Forgive me but would that even work or is the resonace coming from out of the exhaust tips?
I tried wrapping my stingers in exhaust wrap in the hopes of bringing the resonance down just a bit, but it would seem that it doesn't work very well, at least not well enough for me to notice. Would wrapping the mufflers do anything?
Pete,
There is a method I have seen use and I have used it myself. It does make a difference. However it involves increasing the sound padding. I did it in just the rear and it helped.
Don't let me mislead you, it's not my website. I just followed his lead but I only did the back end and it took about 6 hours. I took my time. I already have a couple of more rolls for the front and I plan to do it too like he did on the website.

Just my opinion but I believe resonance is something that isn't going to be affected, very much, by any kind of sheilding. It's just too pervasive as it turns your whole car into a tuned cavity. I think the only way to beat resonance is to stop it at it's source.
I did the entire rear deck of my C4 with Dynamats, an adhesive insulator similar to what is shown above. Cut reasonance by 1/4 and virtually eliminated the whine of my 3.73's.
Stuff is a bit heavy, probably added 10 lbs of sprung weight, but was worth it to hear the radio again.
