Can anyone help me figure out how to remove the window motor on my 98 vette. I got as far as trying to remove the cables that are attached to it and I'm afraid of breaking something. Does anyone know how the cables are removed?
That's funny... my motor just broke in mine as well. Where can I get a replacement part other than a dealer? (I'm a new 'vette owner so I don't have all the good hookups to parts and info) Aggrivation

Bumping this back up because I haven't gotten aroudn to fixing this yet.
IS there any literature online for this because I can't find any. And the above post says it's serviced as an assembly? Does that mean the wires don't come off the motor, the whole unit needs replacing?
If anyone has anything online about this I'd love to see it!
What window are you guys having problems with? Are you sure it's the motor. My passenger window stuck in the up position a few months back. One of the forum members jumped in and told me to take the door panel off and tap on the back side of the motor. Worked like a charm. Apparently the passenger side is known for sticking in the up position.
My 2000 convertible passenger door window stuck in the up position, so I took off the door panel and checked it out. First block the window in the up position so it doesn't drop. Then I had to dismount the motor (3 bolts as I remember) and then re-wind the cable onto the drum assembly which is integral part of the motor. Then, while holding the cable in place with the cover (going by memory here), I remounted the motor. The cable is then re-strung through the lower left pulley to give it the final tightness. There's just enough give in the cable to barely get it back into position, but it can be done. Once done, it has worked flawlessly ever since.
Thanks for the info Gene, What did you block the window with to hold it up?...and after door panel removal...was anything else loosened or removed other than 3 bolts holding motor in place?
I used a short piece of 1x2 wood about 12" long to hold the window up. I placed it towards the right as you look at the open door. This way it was out of the way.
I don't remember having to remove anything else besides the three motor mounts. As I recall, after rewinding the drum correctly and reassembling the motor assembly, I bolted it back into place and then stretched the cable over the lower left pulley. It was really tricky, but I finally got it done after a few tries.
