Default Switch Location For Cut-Outs

I need to mount a switch to activate my remote cut-outs. It looks as though the ash tray might be the best location. Does anyone sell a replacement bezel for the ash tray or other location??? Anyone have any ideas or parts laying around?

I designed my own based on the ashtray itself and had it machined out of Delrin. I realize most don't have my resources at their disposal so maybe you could adapt an activation switch pod from a nitrous system or something similar. If you look on QTP's or McCord's website, they have several examples of custom switch mounts different people have done.

Here a couple of shots of mine.

why not remove the cigarette lighter and get a switch from electronics/radio shack that will mount into that hole...could use a push on/ push off switch that has an internal bulb or cover. also you may be able to use the existing power from the lighter to work the cutouts. just my thoughts. tom

Absolutely awesome craftsmanship. Even a flat piece of material shaped to fit the ash tray would work great. Plus Delrin would match my shift ****. Any idea where I can acquire a small flat piece of Delrin I could retrofit?

As you know, you should use the cutout manufacturer's switch assembly unless you are able to build your own with an inline fuse and the proper type of momentary switch and harness connectors. But why go through the hassle when they supply you with the correct setup.

You need a 1/2" hole for the McCord or QTP setup for the switch. You only need to decide where to drill the hole. Xtrooper put his inside the center console right next to the Aux power jack. I used the ashtray location just because I could. You lose the ability to put the NX switch assembly there if you ever decide to use nitrous though or just have to relocate the cutout switch. Be aware that I had to do some minor mods to my IP trim and the little metal bracket in the center tunnel that it screws to to clearance the switch and harness because of the location I picked.

Also, remember that you want a switched power source so the cutouts are not hot with the ignition off. You can drain your battery in no time playing with these with the ignition off. I connected mine to the Aux connector just above the BCM in the passenger footwell next to the fuse box.

A couple more pics.

Cutout for the switch body in the IP trim.

Switch mounted. Note the nuts holding my switchbox firmly to the trim.

You can see the notched bracket just in front of the yellow plug. This was only necessary because of the switch location I chose.

Btw, this is the McCord install I did. I now run the QTP setup which had an identical switch mount but different switch.

Thanks for the advice. I have a totally different cutout/switch setup. This one is made by Street Pro and has a rectangle shape. The kind that snaps in to a plastic punch out. I'll have to make a bezel to fit where the ash tray goes. I have high aspirations for this system. It looks be very high quality. It splices into the stock H pipe and remains tucked up in the tunnel, so all you need to do to return it to stock is swap out the H pipe. I goes in early next week. Can't wait.

I am also contemplating switch location, but in my case I am looking for a location for 8 - 10 switches to control cutouts, strobes, neon, and a bunch of other special effects. I know, I have a sickness!

Anyway, I ran across this site in a car mag a couple of weeks ago. They have a remote controlled system that will control up to eight functions. I don't know if this will help, but the web site is:

Good Luck!
