The stinking Delco leaked a small amount of acid onto the garage before I caught it, pulled the holder and don't see any damage to wiring but upon replacing with new battery the auto acts as if there is no battery at all...and the battery is good.
Does anyone have any ideas? I thought perhaps the C5 needs something done after power interrupt that I may not be aware of.
If you haven't you should clean battery tray, cable, general area,
and new battery of any acid. You can do this with a mixture of baking soda and water.
on this topic, I just put in a new exide battery and it appears to be leaking acid. Is there anyway I can tell for sure? The old battery I took out a few days back and it seems dry as can be so it doesn't seem like the acid was just sitting there. As far as cleaning the acid, would it be a bad idea to just sprinkle baking soda in the general vicinity instead of using baking soda and water?
I would agree that a gel cell offers the best protestion against leaking but if you must use a conventional type then make sure you do not overtighten the cables. They only need 7 lbs. of torque to tighten and overtightening can cause leaking.
well I got the exide battery for free and it has the standard caps at the top, the old battery I had didn't have those caps. Is there any way I can clean this battery up and still use it?

Wow. To save $100 your taking a big risk. From what I have heard the cost to replace wire harness is over $2,500. Is it worth it? Red top is a great battery and if you don't think you'll get your money out of it, remember that you don't have to sell it with your car. Pull it and put it in another. But the peace of mind and prevent is worth every penny IMHO.
Gonna trade this Exide battery in for one of the Exide Orbital batteries that doesn't leak. still cost me 50-60 less than the optima.

Can someone point me to a thread or tell me how to clean up this acid, I want to make sure I do it right. So far I have sprayed the area with a solution of bakingsoda/water from one of those pesticide sprayers, not sure what else I need to do, it seems to have just taken out my hvac vacuum line at this point. And yes I did use search and nothing of use came up.

You'll need to make a thicker solution of Baking Soda and water that will still flow but be more concentrated and pour it in and around that area until it stops fizzing and then rinse and re-apply. I believe the battery box can be removed to gain better access. but what ever can't be reached with the baking soda should be hosed well to dilute and flush out the battery acid. Good luck. The serach function seems weak since the CF changed software.
Hey thanks for the response on how to clean up the acid, but I'm worried about doing like you say because of so much liquid/water getting in that area. Is it all water proof? Thats why I used the sprayer, I didn't want to get it too drenched.
Acid is a lot worse than water, get the acid out then use WD 40, W=water D=displacement or alcohol to pull the water out of any areas it is sticking in. Get the acid out it will eat wires hoses and computers fast, if it dries it can start to work on a humid day and the gremlins will drive you nuts. Then put a good battery in there.

Everything in there is weather tight. connectors are a water tight as well. Hosing it down will not hurt anything but disconnect the battery of course before hand. And as CAPN17 said, Acid is a whole lot worse.
