Default Building a new engine setup...which would you choose...

I have narrowed my next engine project down to two choices. Which one would you choose? The engine is staying 346cid but getting a new top end.

Option 1: Forced induction
F1R + AFR heads + Low Compression + New cam

Option 2: Max effort all motor
AFR heads + New cam(240+) + more nitrous

There is also a third custom project on the table that needs some rule book researching and questions answered about custom radiators.

Option 1 i think. Interested in what #3 is though!

Option 2 does have one advantage, you could take out the solenoid and race it in the NA category also.

I'm hoping to be at MIR this weekend, let me know if you are going...

Phil,

I think you use your car at the strip a lot. Therefore, I'd push you towards option 2, which can give you proven low ETs. When you say FI I am not sure if you mean supercharging, but supercharged cars (including mine) just don't seem to generally make the same ETs as H/C/Nitrous cars. OpticZ06 is one of the few exceptions with his high 9 second passes I think Chris from ECS also has some wicked time slips with his Nitrous + FI setup.

FWIW I went with FI on my car so I could kick a little booty on the street but maintain near stock driving characteristics -- ETs were an afterthought.

You obviously have a forged bottom so you may as well go for it--I am waiting to see what the afr 225 flow as they come but really interested in some blanks to see what our heads guys can do with them, I think some of the guys will get 25 or better more cfm out of them then they come--I am looking for 360 or more for the big inches--the F1R would be a great you will deff have to have a very strong drive train--the F1R will more than support stock inches if you have the motor apart maybe the 4" stroke would be good they work very well with the extra torque of the 383--

The blower setup gets my vote. Larger CI + N20 just doesn't have the cool factor of a blower.

It's easier to add nitrous later, and when you do, the nitrous will have a cooling effect on the hot intake charge, and the net combined results may be greater than the sum of the individual results. I've seen the F-body guys add a power ring before the throttle body to get the charge cooled earlier in the intake path. I've seen some Honda guys run lawn/garden misters from their wiper systems to spray onto their radiator or intercooler...I'm actually thinking about doing this to help keep my car cooler at auto-x's.
