Default Help with Clutch - it won't work

I think I messed it up.

I went to the track tonight and was having are really nice run, but could not shift into 4th on last run and I had lots of distance still to go. Still finished with a 13.9

So driving to get my slip, I notice that I can not get the car to go in any gear.

When I stop to get my slip, I am stuck, the clutch goes to the floor, but I can not put it in gear.

I had to turn the car off, put it in 1st and start it, and the car started like it was in gear, it lerched forward because the starter engaged with the car in gear, even though the cluch pedal was on the floor, and then the engine started.

So I managed to drive home. Only about 5 lights to deal with from the track to my house. I was able to basically shift with out the cluth, easing it into higher gears very carefully matching revs... But did not go past 4th. On the way home I was able to get it to go into neutral (but only once while stopped with the engine running) and you could hear somthing rattling below and forward of the shifter.
Then when I got to the driveway, I could not get it into neutral again. I could not pull it out of first. I had to shut the car off before it hit the house (my dad would not have liked that)

Any ideas on what I broke.

The car has 158K miles, with original clutch that does NOT slip. The ploblem is I am at my parents house which is 250 miles from where I live and where my mechanic is located. I really don't want to take the car to the chevy dealership in this town.

Any temp fix so I can drive it 4 hours to my house?

OMG you got 158k miles out of a stock clutch? That has got to be a record!

In the morning after everything cools down it may be better, but its still going to be a limp home if it does like mine did. Like twice or more the normal time. If it is mostly highway it might be worth a try. Don't even try to take it over 2000 rpms. I believe I was able to cruise in 5th around 45-50mph, though it took a long time to build up speed to get there, and hills were a serious pain.

I don't know if it would actually help, but you could try removing the fluid (turkey baster trick) and replacing it.

Good luck!

Provided letting your car sit over night doesn't resolve the problem expect to spend around a grand to get a new clutch installed. If you can get anywhere near 158K miles on *any* clutch your doing great.
