Default Launch technique for new ET Streets...

I'm trying this over in the Drag section but it's slower over there so....

99 FRC (MN6). Approx. 400RWHP (370RWHP on a Mustang Dyno). Stock clutch. 26X11X17 ET Streets on order for 17X8.5" wagon wheels. Bandimere Speedway, Morrison, CO. Approx. 6000ft elev. Any advise/experience for tire psi's, launch RPM and clutch teqnique would be appreciated. I at least need a starting point as we only get two time trials for Club Clash nights. TIA, Chris

with et streets run about 14 psi. if you launch at any less then 4000 rpm you will bog badly. if you still bog add a few psi. you are better off with a slight spin than with any bog at all becouse of time it takes to get back into power band. the best launch is with no spin or bog. thats what test and tune is for.

4000 + clutch drops with your stock clutch on ET Streets? I would up grade to a stronger clutch.

4500, pop the clutch, floor it and hold on!

4000 drop on a stock clutch at 6000 ft you are fine for awhile. I am running BFG G Force TA Drag Radials on a stock clutch and I launch at 5000 otherwise I bog down. Ride the clutch out a little when you launch. Did Bill tell you he can't get et streets or the MT drag radial? I think we are gonna have to order the BFG Drag radial from tire rack. Line lock time? You will need a new clutch before the night is over.

Good luck!

I have over 100 time slips with 4000 rpm launches on my zo6 and stock clutch is hanging in there. If you drag race you will break things from time to time. If you cant handle that fact stick to a lawn chair at a car cruise.

Your stock clutch is not the same as his stock clutch, unfair comparison.

And if you did that on low pressure ET streets how long do you think it would last, that is the point most of these replies are making.

It's great that he has gotten himself one heck of a tire package, and the advice on how to launch it has been pretty good. But to expect a stock LS1 clutch to last long under that load, even at just above stock horsepower/torque is unreasonable.

I'm sure if the guy is motivated enough to go get some ET streets, he's not scared of a few things breaking, and doesn't need a lawn chair.

I don't mean to misdirect this thread, but in addition to answering on the launch technique, I thought a warning about the clutch was reasonable. Being that I have been through an LS1 and now an LS6 clutch, do about 60+ 1/4 mile runs a summer, I was qualified to comment on it. Not an expert, just my $.02.

IFLUBYU, I agree with you for the most part. We are at 6000ft up here so we are lacking about 100 hp compared to you guys at sea level. My car has pulled 422 rwhp on a dynojet corrected. I ran drag radials all last year and this year and my stock clutch was fine. It started slipping right before I was ready to instal my clutch. Depending on miles and how hard he has driven it I think it might last for a little while. A new clutch is in his future tho. Kaley

Hmmm, well I glad somebody is getting good mileage out of their clutch. After I did the 2x H/C to my MN6 coupe, a few launches later on runflats btw, it was......."whats that smell". Finally started slipping badly at the last Corvette Challange at E-town and I had to pack it in. Anyway the point is that with "sticky tires" expect the clutch to wear at an excellerated rate. You may want to consider an upgrade in that department.

I got 28k miles out of that clutch. 8k miles of it was with the heads/cam/headers. I expected my clutch to go out a long time ago but it lasted. I still had alot of my disk left when we took it out thursday. The flywheel and the pressure plate showed alot of heat tho. Tsab, you are looking at a little more then a full secong slower up here and about a 100 hp less then what you are getting in NJ. Just an FYI. Kaley
