Default Sealing the radiator / shroud

So it's hot as all freakin' heck here today, so the car was running hot but even a little hotter than I thought - so I did a quick check of the radiator to make sure I hadn't sucked anything up.

I noticed that the foam pieces that are intended to seal the shroud against the radiator are coming off of the radiator on the top, so there's a path for air to go AROUND.

Question is has anyone else seen this and what did you do to fix it? What type of adhesive is or should be used to stick the foam to the radiator? Apparently what GM used isn't working...

Thanks!

Funny you mention this. I just looked under my car today and the foam pieces were coming out too....but I have a BeCool rad so I thought it was that. I had some foam stripping laying around that is used for "caps" on trucks to put between the cap and the bed of the truck. I built up the foam pieces and carefully wedged it back in place. Seems to be holding after driving the car today but time will tell. Good luck. BTW, that foam is adhesive on one side so I used that side to adhere to the foam and then pushed it into place.

I bought some weatherstrip from Autozone to do the hood seal and had a bunch left over, so I cut two strips and glued them to the radiator shroud, and then pushed the weatherstrip bulbs into the seal. I could swear my average coolant temps dropped 10-20 degrees from that alone...I'm not sure, but having air forced to go thru the radiator sure can't hurt can it?

Thanks guys.

I temporarily just pushed the foam that's there back in place before going out last night and temps dropped 10 degrees easy.

Seems also in my case the foam pieces that are there aren't pushing up against the shroud very hard, so they aren't compressed - I think this is hurting. I'm going to build up the foam with some strips I have and see what happens.

Thanks again!
