98 automatic will not shift out of park

HELP!! My car is stuck in the garage, it will not shift out park. The same thing happened last summer but after a few tries it just fixed itself, I just assumed it was another "quirk". Does anybody know what the problem might be? Thanks

I believe there is a relay between the brake being pressed and the shifter releasing, if that goes bad the shifter will not release.

I think there is a pin/interlock in the shifter; if it is bent or broken it will not shift fron parj. I was able to get mine to the dealer before it was all the way broken.

There is a safety interlock switch that is activated by pressing the brake. It seems that the switch, which is located under the shift console is the most common culprit.
There are other people on this forum that have encountered the same problem, they should be able to help.
