A weld broke on a flange on the exhaust pipe just ahead of the axle on my 2000. GM and the dealer agreed it was a bad weld and agreed to replace the muffler free. Great -the bad news follows.
The problem
I did not buy this car new and they replaced the muffler with one with "oval" plain steel pipe tips. They said the "round" chrome tips on my car were not available in 2000 and they were aftermarket. So now I have to have the new pipes cut and the old "round" tips somehow welded on the muffler.
Do you agree the round chrome tips are after market and not available in 2000 from GM? Thanks
Bob
That is correct. The chrome tips were not available on cars until 2001 and then they came on all cars (except the Z06, they were a little different)
Mike
This is true. The factory tips on the 2001-2004 are the same as the Cadillac tips, if you want them. Personally, I'd go with aftermarket tips (Corsa), or, exchange your catback for an aftermarket carback, and when the time comes to upgrade or sell your car, reinstall the stock system and sell the aftermarket system. I'm running a set of GHL Bullets and plan on eventually doing that...maybe when the C7 hits the street as I don't really care for the "smiley-face" C6.

Just put Corsa tips on my 99 Coupe today! They look great. When I bought my car, all four welds were cracked on the flanges just in front of the rear axle. Had an exhaust shop re-weld them. Took all of ten minutes. No probs since.
RDB,
I have a couple mufflers off my 2001 for sale. They have 16K miles on them and aside from paint wear they're in excellent condition. See: http://terrystoybox.com
Good Luck!
