Default Light wheels make you go fast!

Can anyone recommend the lightest wheels using stock tire size? I want lighter than the stock Z06 wheels.

Might want to look into CCW. They make very light and strong custom race wheels

You will be hard pressed to find many streetable wheels lighter than the OEMs. I think the CCWs are within a few ozs. of the OEMS. The SSRs sold by the TireRack are maybe about 1/2 lb. lighter per wheel. Good luck in your quest.

Kodiaks are the lightest conventional 3-piece, but it's not for the streets.

They're about the same.

Best bet is to dump the runflats- they're really heavy.

I looked into this a while back and decided to go with Z06 wheels... I don't remember any of the numbers, but from what I remember, the aftermarket wheels that were lighter (many weren't), were not much lighter.

There is much more to be gained by dumping runflats if you haven't done so already... also, lighter tires are even more effective than lighter wheels, as they have a higher rotational inertia (further away from center of rotation).

Soo true, but this effect can also be coupled with having smaller diameter wheels with the (lighter) rubber to make up the rest of the weight, or even run a smaller overall tire/wheel diameter setup.

The fronts are 17lbs and the rear are 19lbs and are supposed to be stronger and will not work harden like alum.

Okay, I've calmed down a little and checked out Crossed Flags. Here's a link to the original thread about it. [Link]

And here's what a rep from the company had to say:

We have mimicked the design of the C5 wheel as closely as possible (Rim profile/Hub). Size 18" x 10" weight 14 lbs. Rim finishes Black/black and gold/and red. Center colors Chrome/Black Chrome/Platnium Silver/Chromate. Cost $2990.00 per wheel. OEM sensors will fit and would not have to be taped on. These wheels have been tested to OEM specification and have exceeded them. This wheel was engineered with the racer in mind and we have used the appropriate materials to withstand heat that racing generates. The obvious advantage to these wheels is the reduction of unsprung weight we have reduced the weight 6 lbs per corner thats 24 lbs total unsprung weight reduction. Every pound of unsprung weight is equal to 8 lbs of sprung weight so by using these wheels you save 192 lbs of sprung weight and you feel every pound of it.

I saw those carbon fiber wheels at Bloomington Gold, and the salesman said that they were $3000 EACH! I did everything that I could not to choke when he said that! They were VERY COOL though, and I picked one up, and they were light! Nice, but out of my price range.
