I had my 2001 re-ring done at the dealer. They used stock 2002 Z06 style rings but with a sharp leading edge to break in quickly. These work well for people 99% of the time.

Hello Z060ntrack.
I had my 2001 Z06 re-ringed also. We used the rings recomended by GM to eliminate the oil consumption problems (they worked great).
Part number of the ring kits I purchased was 88894299. You need eight sets. I got mine from Fitchner Chevy (forum vendor).
While you are in there it would be a good time to upgrade the rod bolts and timing chain.
Good luck.

Thanks, I've already done the timing chain but the rod bolts are a good idea.
I'll cross reference the part number to see if it matches the replacement program from G.M. or is different from the 2004 rings.

Interesting, the part number you used was not the part number that G.M. lists for the TSB on the 2001 - 2002 LS1/LS6 which is 88984247 which is also the part # for the 2004 LS6.

Go with the APR rod bolts. For the few extra dollars its worth it if you like to spin the engine up to redline often.

I would get the ARP studs as you can reuse them more times. Try any of the forum vendors. Thunder, Speed Inc. etc

According to OIL CONSUMPTION-SERVICE BULLETIN I have, "Higher Than Expected Oil Consumption (Replace Rings) #01-06-01-023"
It states under parts: Piston Ring Kit #88894299, Qty. 8
These are special rings to fix the oil consumption issue and seat quickly from what I recall. They are not just replacement Z06 rings for a new motor.
I hope this helps. If you want, I can email you my copy of the service bulletin.
Thanks, Perry

93Polo, ARP has studs to replace the GM rod bolts or are you talking about head studs?
I think z060ntrack is talking about rod bolts which yes, I would suggest ARP.
Thanks, Perry
