Default Nitto 555 R's ??

Current setup: ( Stock Y2K polished rims )
Fronts: 17's P245/45ZR17
Rears: 18's P275/40ZR18

I *need* new tires on for the rear. The stock run-flats just aren't working with my 500+ rwhp ProCharger setup.

Can I *safely* run Nitto 555's on the back and keep my stock run-flats up front? Which size Nittos should I get for the back????

Ideally I would like a tire that I can run on the street and the track. If the tire only last 10-15K miles that is fine with me ( my car is a Y2K and has 15K miles on it ).

Anything else I should keep in mind??

Please advise.

Thanks,

Mark

I'm running nitto 555r2 in back on a stock zo6 rim and f1's up front with no problem. Best size for zo6 rim is 305 35 18

I had the Nitto's (before I did H/C) and they were OK at first, but as they started to wear, they lost a lot of traction. Also their wet traction was pretty bad. I now have the pilot sports and they are a much better tire in my opinion, even with H/C.

I have some trouble with traction at 417 rwhp in 1st and 2nd with stock tire sizes, I would think you will need wider rims to get enough traction with 500rwhp.

I basically have the same power 413rwhp/420rwtq and I have the 335/30/18 Pilot Sports....they still SUCK straight line. Like being on a skateboard...all over the place. Corners are awesome though. I put Nitto DRs 315/35/17 on some spare wheels and straight line is shocking. Even cold and from a 10mph roll, I can't spin them.

Hey Mark,

I have the Nitto 555's on all corners.....

I think they are a really great street tire....not the best in the rain compared to BFG KDW's.....

I would not set up w/ 2 different style tires front/back since they have different handling tendencies.....

If you are at 500 hp.....and looking at getting new tires, definately go wider!!!!!!! I'm not sure how wide you can get w/ your stock rims....295's should fit easily but i would push for 305 or 315's to put more hp to the ground......

Keep me posted, looking at newer (wider rims) in the near future....

I just put nt555r's on 10.5" zo6 wheels, 305/35/18'. I have 440rwhp, with 4.10's. These are excellent for traction.

Default Nitto's

I have nittos on all four corners as well, they have been a great tire compared to the run craps. I dont have RWHP you have...yet... I have over 10000 miles on themand still look great. Traction in the rain is a little iffy but on dry pavement they are hard to beat for the price. Thats my $0.02.

I put Nitto 555's up front and 315-35-18 555 DR's out back and love 'em. Living in South Florida I get to see plenty of rain and have no problems. I'm supercharged A4 with 3:42's and Yank SS3200. I can spin them at will but have respect for wet conditions. Just my $.02

I just purchased 305/35-18 Nitto 555r DR's for the rear, and 275/40-17 Nitto 555r Extremes, for the front, to replace my run-craps. Can't wait to put them on this weekend!

If you decide to go with this setup, get some 17x9.5's and 18x10.5's, so they'll fit properly. Good luck!

Did you have the tires heat cycled before installing them ?

I'm not opposed to replacing all four tires. I would like to keep my stock rims if possible. What I don't want to do is have a separate set of tires that only get used at the tract ( changing tires every time I want to head out to the track sounds like a PIA ) . My car is not a daily driver, however, I do drive my car a few days a week to work. No road trips or winter driving in my Vette ( that's what the truck is for ).

Does anyone know the exact sizes I should order to replace my stock run-flats? I have the polished rims on my 2000 Vette. Currently I have P245/45ZR17's in the front and P275/40ZR18's in the rear.

My goal is to have one set of tires that I can use on the street and that hook well at the track. I really don't care if the tires only last 10,000 - 15,000 miles ( that's a couple of years of driving for me ) .

Thanks again everyone for helping,

Mark

Default Nittos

They are a good choice for replacement of the run craps, I have had no complaints. The stock size is the same as you need. Get them you will enjoy them.
